Wollombi is a popular destination for
Canberran's, Sydneysiders and backpackers
alike. It provides an excellent opportunity to experience both the
grand colonial style architecture exhibited in the school buildings,
courthouse and postoffice, and the small and humble buildings of the
early settlers typified in the many slab huts and houses still
standing in the area.
Wollombi is also a great base for
exploring the famous Hunter Valley wine region, Australia's oldest
wine producing district. Famous wine makers (including
McGuigan & McWilliams) are just a short drive away. Mind you,
with wine makers scattered across the Wollombi Valley itself, you'll be
forgiven if you don't venture too far!
Visitors can enjoy the new
generation wines being grown such as Chambourcin, or savour the
traditional Wollombi Valley classic varieties... Semillon,
Shiraz, Chardonnay or Muscat.
While in Wollombi the place to stay is
Grey's Inn.
Grey's Inn offers a range of
authentic Australian meals, snacks, coffee, local wine & beers, as
well as comfortable en-suite accommodation.
Grey's Inn is not only a
fantastic place to spend a few extremely comfortable nights sleep,
it is also home of the famous "Water Hen Restaurant".
The historic restaurant is set
in a spectacular sandstone building, dating back to the 1860's,
featuring a rustic interior, log fire and two sunny courtyards.
The menu is new and exciting and includes magnificent A la Carte
evening dining.
Enjoying exquisite Australian
cuisine, or just a glass of refreshing wine, Grey's Inn is perfect
to visit throughout the year.
