Customer service?
I visited the hub Asian supermarket in
Gungahlin on 17 May 2008.
I wanted to buy an Indian sauce which was
clearly marked at $1.73. the check-out lady wanted to charge me $2.35.
after a girl came back with a price check, it turned out that the same
product was located on two different shelves in that store but with two
different prices. when I was asked whether I wanted the sauce, I replied
with a 'yes', but I wanted it at the advertised price. this was denied. I
then spoke to the manager, Jason, who told me that his staff had made a
mistake and that the price tag was over one year old (January 2007). When
I asked him to sell the sauce to me for the advertised price, he said
'no'. When I mentioned the word 'consumer rights' and 'misleading
advertising', he said that consumer law was only for Woolworths and Coles.
He was rude and told me several times that I
wasn't listening to him, that he was not going to sell the sauce to me for
the lower price. His products, such as this sauce, expires this May. I bet
he still wants to sell it at a top price, even in June, when it is mouldy.
This is not the first time that we have had
problems with this shop. last time we bought hokkien noodles that had
green mould inside (due to poor storage). But, unless we travel to Sydney,
we have to put up with these jokers.
I would have at least expected a 'sorry sir
for the inconvenience' and '...of course, you may have the sauce at the
advertised price'. but this store operator obviously knows nothing about
customer service, common decency and consumer law. by the way, what does
our health department in the act do about these things?

Some food for thought.
I
think the main thoroughfare (Hibberson street) should be pedestrianised
and made 'access only' for disabled drivers/deliveries. There isn't really
a need to drive down there unless you are physically impaired. The zebra
crossing linking Big W and Woolworths is poorly marked, often 'missed' by
motorists and is an accident waiting to happen. I would have thought
lessons could have been learnt from the zebra crossing in civic that
dissects the Canberra Centre (Bunda st).
I
think a country style pub/s would also offer a community meeting point. (I
don't mean a dirty drinking den). A nice pub/s, perhaps with a crazy golf
course for children, a cosy lounge with blazing fire for winter and a beer
garden area for the warmer months.
Name supplied, Gungahlin
Editors Note: Some food for thought here. A country style
pub would be a great addition to the Gungahlin Town Centre (as long as it
is appropriately located of course). That blazing log fire would be hard
to resist!

An accident waiting to
happen.
I
would just like to make a comment about the "no parking" signs outside the
video shop adjacent to pizza hut.
This is getting to be a very dangerous place. I have already had my
mirrors knocked off twice as cars trying to get past the cars parked
outside the video shop have not left them any room to move. The
video shop used to encourage cars to park outside their shop by putting up
signs saying "we don't mind, but parking inspectors are checking". I
haven't seen a parking inspector yet!
This is not a rant as such but it really is getting beyond a joke now, and
it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.
Name supplied, Gungahlin
Editors Note: We couldn't agree more. It's very
disappointing to hear the video shop may have been encouraging this
dangerous practice. Come on Gungahlinites, a little walk wouldn't
hurt some of you!

Poor Planning.
This will be my first winter in Canberra and I have to say that I am
scratching my head about the town planning in Gungahlin.
what happens when you want to go to the butcher and then the fruit shop
and then Coles, for example. in the middle of winter, with kids in tow,
are we supposed to walk around and freeze our proverbials off?
It would have made much more sense to have the shops in one long strip
without that useless bit of green strip (that runs between Starbucks and
Billy Baxters). at least then you could walk under cover from one end of
town to the other.
For a new suburb, there is really no excuse, especially in Canberra where
the winters are notorious.

Hi there!
My fiancé and I have just moved to Gungahlin
and are very happy in this busy little suburb. All it is missing is a
movie cinema!!!

Well Done Raiders Club.
Hi.
I just wanted to say how much the Raiders
Club has changed recently and what a great time my family had when we went
there for dinner the other night.
The food has improved out of sight, and the
atmosphere has too. No more pool tables or karaoke, just a great smoke
free atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. I was impressed and had to
say so!
Well done Raiders club, you do us all proud!

Recent trip to McDonalds,
Gungahlin.
On a recent trip to McDonalds in Gungahlin I was applaud to see a (for the
second time in a month) a group of youngsters in the restaurant car park
just generally 'laying about'. They sat there skylarking, drinking,
kissing and cuddling and they had the car stereo up full bore.
Now I am no wowser, but surely they could find somewhere else to 'hang
out'. This is supposed to be a family restaurant, and my small
children were scared to walk past this group. Like I said this, is
the second time I have encountered this 'problem' in two visits, and when I
raised it with the staff inside I was told "oh yeah, they are always there, we try
and move them on but they come back".
Come on McDonalds, please try and make the area family friendly, or you'll
lose my family as customers permanently.

A big "Thank You".
I just wanted to write and say a big thank
you to Chris (you know who you are) who stopped to help me last week when
I ran out of petrol on Gundaroo Road. I was so busy with the
kids and Christmas shopping I totally forgot to keep an eye on my petrol
gauge.
Chris not only stopped to see if I was ok
(many others didn't bother) he drove me to Wollies Petrol Station and back
to my car with a jerry can of petrol.
Chris wouldn't take any money, so I wanted
to let visitors to Gungahlin On-line! know how much I appreciated his
kindness. It's refreshing to know there are some fantastic people
living here.
Thanks again Chris.

A great initiative.
Dear Gungahlin Region On-line!
What a nice surprise it was to stumble
across this site the other day while I was looking for some information on
places to eat out in Gungahlin.
This site is great, and it is fantastic to
have a web site dedicated to this often forgotten part of Canberra.
I'll definitely be back to visit soon.
I hope everyone in the area gets behind this
initiative as it deserves our support. I'll certainly be spreading
the word.
Thanks again.

Graffiti is not art!
Dear Gungahlin On-line!
Thanks for
the opportunity to vent!
I just
wanted to express my opinion on what I consider to be an anti-social
problem that is spreading across the Gungahlin Region. Don't get me
wrong, I know this is not an issue unique to our region but it is really
starting to get me down. I am talking about Graffiti. I am so
sick of seeing more and more of this around the place. Where do
these people get off? Why do they think it is ok to go around in the
dead of night (very brave aren't they?) and spray their crap all over
peoples property. I'm sure they wouldn't like me to do it over their
property. I think if they are caught they should cop more of a
punishment and be made to clean up their mess. I am just sick of
seeing it and I know even if they are caught (like this happens often!)
they will get little more than a slap on the wrist (oh, I forgot, we can't
do this anymore!) - give me a break!
What do
others think?

Butt out!
Hi.
I
saw someone throw a cigarette out of a car last week near the Market
Palace. I think this is really stupid at anytime, but it is
even worse when the grass is so dry. Wake up and use your
ashtray (better still, stop smoking!)

Use Fireworks wisely...
Here
we are again another Queens Birthday and more Fireworks. I
love the fact that we Canberran's are able to buy them.
Don't get me wrong, I don't buy Fireworks (I haven't for years) but
I am happy that in a progressive community like ours we have a
choice whether to buy them or not, rather than have our lives
totally regulated by governments.
Why
am I writing? I fear that the people who are trying to ban
them will be given fuel for their course by the minority (yes,
minority) of Firework users who flaunt the law, letting them off at
all hours day and night. Every bang I hear after 10pm is
greeted by a shudder in my mind as I think "great, that will get the
Ministers phone ringing"!
So
come on - all sensible firework users encourage others to do the
same. If they don't (and there are always one or two) please,
please don't ban them for everyone. I am sick of things being
banned simply because it is the easiest way to go!
